What to do if your sink pivot rod breaks?

Pull up and down on the lift rod to check for proper operation. In the pivot rod has broken or eroded off, check the sink trap and retrieve any loose pieces so they won’t cause a clog. If you can’t locate a replacement pivot rod to fit your drain, install a new pop-up assembly instead.

What can cause a pivot rod connector to leak water?

Background: When running water in my bathroom sink, I’m seeing a small water leak (about a drop per minute). I traced the source to the bottom of the pivot rod connector – see the red circle in the attached picture. Questions: Given that the leak doesn’t appear to come from where the connector itself is screwed in, what might the cause be?

How does a drain stopper work in a bathtub?

Bathtub drains consist of a visible trip lever, a plunger that seats in the drain to stop water, and two pieces of threaded rod which connect the lever and plunger. The assemblies are adjustable to fit a wide range of tubs.

If the drip persists, repeat the above steps on the cold valve. If you’ve replaced the seats and springs and the problem continues, replace both stem assemblies (Delta Genuine Part RP1740 – one stem assembly per package).

Where does the lift rod go in a bathroom sink?

The problem may be sediment in the drain, but it’s also often a loose connection between the lift rod and the lever that controls the stopper. Installing the lift rod, which usually goes directly behind the faucet spout, isn’t difficult, but don’t rely on your fingers.

Where is the pivot rod on a sink stopper?

The pivot rod extends horizontally out the back of the drainpipe under the sink, and connects via a small spring clip to the vertical lift rod that lies on top of the faucet assembly (this is the little mechanism you push or pull to engage or disengage the drain stopper).

What should I do when my sink stopper goes down?

The stopper should move up when the lift rod is pushed down, and the stopper should go down when the lift rod is lifted. The rod should move smoothly and without binding. Reposition the lower lift strap to a different hole if necessary. The sink should hold water when the stopper is in its lowest position.

Why is my Sink stopper lifting out of the sink?

The part of the pivot rod held inside the drain is usually a small plastic ball that connects to the stopper; when the pivot rod is levered up or down, this ball lifts or seats the drain stopper accordingly. Often, the ball can become disengaged from the stopper. If your drain stopper lifts right out of the sink, it has separated from the ball.
