- Shut off the water supply. The first step when fixing a leaky bathtub faucet is shutting off the water supply.
- Remove the cap from the faucet.
- Unscrew the handle screw.
- Remove the handle.
- Remove the escutcheon.
- Remove the stem assembly.
- Check the washer.
- Replace the washer.

The actual leak was occurring in between the gasket that sits on top of the bathtub shoe tube and the bathtub drain hole. The gasket can be seen in the picture below as a black ring. And the bathtub shoe tube is the threaded piece directly below the black gasket.
